Earth Is Now Our Only Shareholder

If we have any hope of a thriving planet鈥攎uch less a business鈥攊t is going to take all of us doing what we can with the resources we have. This is what we can do.

Nylon

Nylon is one of the strongest materials we use in our clothing and gear. Most of our products are made with recycled nylon, reducing our reliance on petroleum without sacrificing performance and durability.

Why

When we need a lightweight, quick-drying fabric that can perform, we look to nylon, one of the strongest plastics we use to build our products. But like most plastics derived from petroleum, manufacturing nylon comes with costly environmental impacts that pollute the land, water and air.

Incorporating as much recycled nylon as we can decreases our dependence on virgin petroleum as a raw material source, helps divert discarded material and reduces greenhouse gas emissions from manufacturing. Using recycled nylon also promotes new recycling streams for nylon products that are no longer functional.

Where 欧博会员入口 Are

欧博会员入口 still use a great deal of nylon, but we鈥檝e switched to recycled sources for most of it: In our Spring 2025 line, less than 8% of our fabric usage by weight includes virgin nylon. To meet our goal of moving completely from using virgin to recycled content, we need recycled nylon to continue making some of our favorite technical jackets and garments鈥攁nd to maintain our performance standards.

One step in that journey is our use of ECONYL, a nylon yarn made from a 50/50 blend of postconsumer and pre-consumer nylon waste. The postconsumer materials come from products like fishing nets and discarded carpeting that have been bought, used in the world and then trashed. Pre-consumer waste material includes items like industrial plastic that would have otherwise been downcycled, downgraded or sent to a landfill. To create this fiber, our partner Aquafil utilizes its Regeneration System to bring the nylon waste back to its original chemical state, so the recycled yarn has the same characteristics as standard nylon produced from virgin raw material.

欧博会员入口 also source recycled nylon from Bureo. Their 狈别迟笔濒耻蝉庐 material is 100% postconsumer recycled nylon ripstop made from recycled fishing nets to help reduce ocean plastic pollution. This nylon 6 is chemically recycled and reduces CO鈧俥 emissions by more than 19% per kilogram compared to virgin nylon 6, based on an internally commissioned Life Cycle Assessment. For the Spring 2025 season, 92% of the nylon fabric we used to make clothing and gear is recycled nylon.

What’s Next

Our goal is to cut ties with virgin petroleum-based fabrics and materials as much as possible. To get there, we鈥檙e using more postconsumer recycled nylon in our gear, and we鈥檙e also exploring other options to replace nylon entirely, such as materials made from plant-based alternatives, that will help curb the CO鈧 emissions associated with material creation.
